Pickled onions in a jar


  • 1 red onion, sliced (you can use yellow/white onion also if you like)

  • 2 cups of water

  • 2 cups of vinegar

  • 1/3 cup of sugar (or less if you like)

  • Optional seasonings (feel free to experiment with these)

    • honey or maple syrup

    • garlic

    • dried hot peppers

    • peppercorns

    • mustard seeds

    • coriander seeds

    • optional: anything else you'd like


  1. Boil water, vinegar, and sugar in a pot.

  2. Add the sweet and spicy items like honey, maple syrup, garlic, dried hot peppers, peppercorns, mustard seeds, coriander seeds and more.

  3. Add sliced onions to your jar, add seasonings, pour liquid over top.
