Thursday, December 13th: Meeting with a fellow food hubber!
Wow - what a great week! This week we had a visitor join us from the Cape Breton Food Hub! Alicia, the manager of the food hub, spent the last two days with us for what we referred to as the "First Annual Nova Scotia Food Hub Conference" hehe! Since we are the only two running a food hub in Nova Scotia, it is such a privilege to be able to get together and talk about the difficulties and the absolute benefits of running one! As Alicia heads back to Cape Breton my brain is swarming with ideas and improvements and just an overall gratitude to be able to do this work.
I think the best takeaway from our meeting is just the realization that there are so many of us who care about the future of Nova Scotia, agriculture, and our local producers. Food Hubs and Farmers' Markets are becoming a strong voice for our local producers, and to harness that voice to do this work is just so incredible. On the flip side, there is still a lot of work to be done, we aren't yet sustainable and neither are many of our producers. But, after the inspiration Alicia brought us, I know we can all get there with the continued support of our local food community!
Have a great weekend,
